Middle School Instrumental Music

Mission Statement

"The Pennsbury Instrumental Music Department, a student-centered learning community, will prepare each member to achieve his or her highest potential and to demonstrate skills and talents necessary for quality of life by providing a musically diverse program with the involvement and support of families and community."

Philosophy

7th and 8th Grade Concert Band

These ensembles are made up of all seventh and eighth grade wind and percussion players, who meet basic technical requirements. Rehearsals take place in the morning during M-periods on Days 3 and 7. Students do not miss class for rehearsals.

Lessons are given once a week to develop skills necessary to participate in these ensembles. All lessons are scheduled on a rotating basis in order to minimize class disruptions.

Two (2) concerts are scheduled each year. Performances take place in the winter and spring. The seventh and eighth grade bands also participate in a Pennsylvania Music Educators Adjudication.

6th Grade Concert Band

These ensembles are made up of all sixth grade wind and percussion players, who meet basic technical requirements. Rehearsals take place in the morning during M-periods on Days 3 and 7. Students do not miss class for rehearsals.

Middle School Honors Band

This ensemble is open to all qualified sixth, seventh, and eighth grade wind and percussion students. Students are recommended by their band director and are selected by competitive audition only.

Weekly rehearsals take place in the evening. Several performances occur in the spring.

Prerequisite: Students must participate in middle school concert band.

Bucks County Music Festival and Bucks County Youth Orchestra

Students who wish to audition for the Bucks County Music Festival or the Bucks County Youth Orchestra must be members in good standing of their school music program.
