Band and Band Front Proper Uniform Code
Students who fail to comply with the following rules will not be permitted to perform with the band. Any damaged uniform part is the responsibility of the student, and, if necessary, this will result in a student obligation.

Band Members:
1. Black socks must be worn with the black uniform and white socks will be worn with the white uniform.
2. Only a plain white t-shirt and plain white shorts will be worn under your uniform. A camel or tan colored pair of shorts is unacceptable. These items must be without printed designs. The t-shirt must have half sleeves, and it must be low enough at the neckline to remain unseen at the jacket collar.
3. Thermal underwear should be worn in cold weather. These should also be white. No blue jeans, prints, or colors will be allowed.
4. Shoes are to be cleaned each week. See section entitled Footwear Maintenance for instructions.
5. Both black and white gloves will need to be purchased for the 2007 — 2008 marching band season. The white gloves will be worn when wearing white pants and the black gloves will be worn when wearing black pants. Both black and white gloves can be purchased from the uniform person. Gloves should have your name or initials inside.
6. No jewelry will be worn with uniforms. This includes rings, earrings, watches, bracelets, necklaces, etc.
7. No colored nail polish.
8. Only appropriate amounts of eye makeup are permitted, and the definition of appropriate is at the discretion of the Director.
9. No sunglasses.
10. No hats or bandanas.
11. Anyone losing a band hat or plume will pay for the cost of replacement.
12. Black stretch ski bands will be worn under band hats for cold weather. These ski bands can be purchased at Wal-Mart.

Band Front Members:
1. Black socks must be worn with your uniform at all times.
2. Black body suit (female) or black “Under Armor” long sleeved shirt (male) and black spandex shorts or boxers must be worn under your uniform. These items must be without printed designs or logos.
3. Black thermal underwear is permitted in cold weather. No blue jeans, prints, or colors will be allowed.
4. Shoes are to be cleaned each week. See section entitled Footwear Maintenance for instructions.
5. Two Pair of Black (Gripped) gloves will be purchased through the band front staff or uniform chairperson. Rifle students wear fingerless gloves with padded palms, designed specifically for band front use. Honor Guard & Saber members wear Leather gloves that will be purchased during the summer thru the staff. Everyone must have 2 pair of gloves at all times. Prices will be given shortly. Gloves should have your name or initials inside.

Band Members Hair Policy:
Females:
1.Hair must be in a bun on top of your head.
2.Loose hair must be sprayed and pinned up with bobby pins or clips.
3.Hair must not be seen through the front or sides of your hat; no hair may be sticking
Out of your hat.
Males:
1. Hair must be appropriate for a military style appearance.
2. Short, neatly trimmed hair is required.
3. Hair must not be seen through the front or sides of your hat; no hair may be sticking Out of your hat.

Band Front Members Hair Policy:
Females:
1. All female members of the band front, who will be wearing hats, will wear their hair in buns. This includes both males and females in the honor guard.
2. Flags and Equipment setters will wear their hair in a bun.
3. If your hair is too short, it will be pinned up or gelled.
4. All members are to be ready to begin at “reporting time” with hair prepared.
5. Members who do not abide by this will be removed from the performance.
6. Repeated difficulties will result in removal from the activity.
Males:
1. Hair must be appropriate for a military style appearance.
2. Short, neatly trimmed hair is required.
3. Hair must not be seen through the front or sides of your hat; no hair may be sticking out of your hat.

Rehearsal Dress Code
Again, the Pennsbury Marching Band is an extension of the school day, and school rules apply to band rehearsals also.
Only sneakers or laced shoes are permitted. No open heels (sandals and opened heel clogs included) or toes are allowed. This applies to all rehearsals, band camp, and summer band front practices. No shirts or tops that allow Midriff area to show.
Band members are required to practice in attire that fits appropriately for the activity. If a student’s clothing choices hamper their ability to perform, or jeopardize their safety on the practice field, they will be pulled from the rehearsal, and assessed a “missed rehearsal,” along with the consequences that apply to that offense. The most common problems are:
1. Sandals, clogs, or flip-flops.
2. Pants or shorts that are too loose to march (one can not perform with one hand on their instrument and one hand holding up trousers).
3. Clothing is too tight, or skirts or shorts are too short for marching.
4. Shirts or Tops allowing midriff to show while practicing with equipment!
It is very wise to keep a pair of old sneakers, and perhaps a rain coat, in your locker throughout the season. For students who tend to dress in a manner other than described above, it would be wise to keep a set of “practice clothes” in their locker.
The Pennsbury Marching Band is an outdoor activity. The band will rehearse in the rain, provided there is no lightning. The band will also rehearse in hot and cold weather. Students are expected to monitor weather forecasts and have proper attire for outdoor rehearsal every day.

Shoe fittings
Shoe fittings will also take place during band camp. Students will be fitted for shoes by A.G.I., and students will receive their shoes prior to our first performance. Shoes will be less than $30.00 a pair. Please remember that you need to purchase a black pair of shoes and a white pair. The exact amount of the shoes will be provided during band camp. Students should bring “performance” socks that they intend to use when fitting shoes for proper sizing. It is recommended that the socks should have considerable padding in the “balls of the foot & heel areas”.

Footwear Maintenance
Shoes: Use Vaseline or a vinyl or patent leather cleaner, then rub or spray on shoes, then wipe off. This should be done after every performance. Use a cotton swab or an old toothbrush to get in crevices. Do NOT use Windex or glass cleaner! It can dry out the material and cause cracking. Always leave your laces and tongues of shoes wide open to promote thorough drying after each use. Waterproof inside and out with a spray for patent or vinyl leathers before wearing. Re-treat after each wet weather performance. Do not use siiicone products as they cause discoloration. All products used on your shoes must state that they are safe for use on vinyl!
Caring for wet footwear:
Never leave any wet items in bags (garment or other) or boxes!
1. Dry shoes immediately with a hair dryer on a cool setting.
2. Remove laces and leave tongues fully open.
If mildew occurs, follow the following procedure:
1. Cut a lemon into four equal sections.
2. Coat the lemon wedges with salt. (Use coarse salt if available)
3. Rub coated lemon wedges over mildewed areas. Squeeze some juice while rubbing. Briefly placing wedges in a microwave will release more juice.
4. Scrub vigorously!
5. Brush out as much of the salt as possible.
6. Dry thoroughly with a hair dryer. Set at a cool temperature and high air speed.
7. Pour baking soda into shoes. Leave the baking soda in the footwear for as long as possible.
8. Pour the baking soda from the shoes then vacuum out the excess baking soda.
9. If an odor still lingers, put charcoal in the shoes and store them in a closed box or sealed bag (if shoes are fully dried.) Charcoal filters packaged in a bag for an aquarium work best. Charcoal briquettes can be used by placing them in a handkerchief or a sock. Leave for as long as necessary.

Poor Weather and Rain Adjustments
The Pennsbury Marching Band is an outdoor activity. The band will perform in the rain, provided there is no lightning. The band will also rehearse in hot and cold weather. Students are expected to monitor weather forecasts and have proper attire for outdoor performances. If there are rain conditions and the Band is performing the following attire is required:
1. Denim Blue Jeans with no holes, rips, writing or designer stitiching.
2. Black Socks
3. Black Dinkles
4. Black Belt if necessary.
5. White T-Shirt or White Pennsbury Band Shirt
6. Black Gloves

Cold Weather adjustments
1. Hand warmers and foot warmers may be used during excessively cold weather.
2. During excessively cold weather

- When wearing the black pants:

black bottom thermal underwear may be worn along with a white thermal shirt.

- When wearing the white pants:

only white or off/white long underwear is acceptable to be worn under the white uniform pants.

The Pennsbury High School Marching Band Uniform – Wear it with PRIDE

The PHS Marching Band uniform should provide each member with a spirit of unity and a sense of purpose and pride. You should therefore give the utmost care to the uniform and in no way become careless with it. If you do not respect the uniform and this organization enough to care for it, then there is always someone eager to take your place. NO UNIFORM IS A UNIFORM UNLESS IT IS WORN CORRECTLY.

If you encounter problems with your uniform (lost articles or buttons, tears, broken seams, etc.), you should immediately report this to the Uniform Chaperones. The time for repairs is NOT the hour before a performance.

Each student is responsible for providing/purchasing the following:

1. Black and White Dinkles (available only through Band Boosters)

2. Black socks (higher than ankle length)

3. White socks (available only through Band Boosters)

4. White tee shirts

5. Black and White gloves (available only through Band Boosters)

6. PLAIN white boxer shorts

7. Black headbands for cold weather (NO logos)

8. Thermal underwear for cold weather

Uniform Regulations:

1. Uniforms are to be properly hung on the uniform rack after each performance.

2. Members should wear the uniform with PRIDE. When wearing the uniform:

a. Always have it buttoned up and zipped up

b. No wrinkles

c. Gloves white (or black) and shoes polished

d. Hair must be neatly up under hats.

Remember: Wear the uniform correctly or not at all!

3. NO jewelry, hair ornaments, colored nail polish, or earrings.

4. No additions may be worn with the uniform such as caps, bandanas, etc.

5. Hair must be worn so that the collar is visible, either cut or pinned up, well-groomed, and kept out of the face. Boys are to be clean shaven.

6. In situations where the band is traveling and the uniform is not being worn, you are to properly hang and cover the uniform in your PHS garment bag.

7. Band hats are to be kept in your garment bag when traveling.

8. Garment bags are for uniforms and hats only. They are not a laundry bag, nor a shoe bag, or a grocery bag. Bring a separate bag for those purposes.

9. The LOSS or DESTRUCTION of a uniform, or any part thereof, will be financially assessed and charged to the student.
